English Motorcyclist Killed On Hwy 49

San Andreas, CA -- 60 year old James Shaw of Stoke-on-Trent, England has been positively identified as the motorcyclist who was killed minutes before two o'clock Monday afternoon on Hwy 49.

According to the CHP report Shaw was southbound south of Red Hill Rd. traveling at a speed of between 35-40mph on his 2005 Harley Davidson when he failed to negotiate a right hand curve. His bike ran off the roadway on the east side of the road and struck an embankment. Shaw was ejected sustaining fatal injuries.

Shaw's death marks the fourth of the long weekend and the thirteenth of the year in Calaveras County. Four of those fatalities have involved motorcycles.
