Sacramento-Sierra Chapter Of American Red Cross Leading Tahoe Relief EffortWednesday, June 27, 2007 - 06:40 PM

South Lake Tahoe, Ca -- The Sacramento-Sierra Chapter of the American Red Cross was one of the first organizations notified shortly after the Angora Fire broke out this past weekend in South Lake Tahoe.
“The Sacramento-Sierra chapter is the lead chapter in this disaster relief operation,” says Spokesperson Courtney Miller. “The El Dorado County area is part of our nine county jurisdiction, but this disaster is so large that it has turned into a national relief operation.” Miller says around 75 volunteers from the Sac-Sierra chapter alone are in the Lake Tahoe area, and more will be sent as the week goes on to help the victims.
“Right now they just need shelter, comfort and a shoulder to lean on,” says Miller. “As you can imagine, these families have pretty much lost everything. They only had mere minutes to escape from their homes”
Miller expects the Red Cross to remain on scene for several weeks, as many families will need assistance for quite some time. An online donation drive is underway at www.sacsierraredcross.org You can also donate by calling the chapter office at 916-368-3131.
The Sacramento-Sierra Chapter covers the counties of Tuolumne, Calaveras, El Dorado, Amador, Alpine, Placer, Sacramento, East Yolo and East Nevada.
