Angora Fire Continues To Burn Near Lake Tahoe

According to CAL FIRE officials the Angora Fire near South Shore, Lake Tahoe is "human caused." (6/25/07).

South Shore Lake Tahoe, CA -- The overnight weather has helped firefighters battling The Angora Fire near Lake Tahoe's South Shore.

Winds calmed down and temperatures dipped into the 30s. A U-S Forest Service spokesman says the incident commander is "feeling very good' about current conditions.


As of 6/25/07 the Angora Fire has burned approximately 220 structures.

The wind-driven fire, which started at 2:10 pm, burned out of control Sunday. It has destroyed a reported 220 structures and forced about one-thousand people to evacuate their homes.

According to the Associated Press, investigators are blaming the fire on "human activity."

According to CAL FIRE's Communications Operator Jim DeVoll in San Andreas, the Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit has contributted one strike team of hand crews, a helicopter and an air tanker to the firefighting effort.


Started Sunday at 2:10 pm near South Shore, Lake Tahoe.

Fire officials warned of a potentially active wildfire season in the Sierra Nevada following an unusually dry winter. As of May first, the snowpack in and around the Tahoe area was just 29 percent of normal.
