Sonora, CA -- 43 year old Anthony Christopher Hinds of Sonora drowned in the Clavey River in an area known as God's Bath early Saturday evening.
Lt. Dan Bressler of the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Department reported that Hinds and his 20 year old son, Shaun, also of Sonora had been swimming in the river. Hinds was swimming toward the God's Bath area and was apparently caught up in the currents of the river. After going over some falls he was not seen again. Rescuers from Calaveras County's Swift Water rescue team responded Saturday evening to initiate the search, but Hinds was not found. Sunday morning rescuers from the Tuolumne County's Search and Rescue team and a helicopter crew responded. Later in the morning Hinds' body was recovered in the area of the waterfall where he was last seen.
His body was removed by the helicopter and subsequently transported to a local funeral home.
