Stockton, CA -- Effective noon today Caltrans announced that Sonora Pass has been opened for two way traffic.
Sonora Pass traditionally opens on Memorial Day weekend. However this year the pass opened early due to the extremely light snowfall over the winter months. As the picture indicates, snowfall was far greater a short year ago.
As of this afternoon Ebbetts Pass remains closed from a half a mile east of SR 207 and the Mt. Reba turnoff to the east end of Alpine Lake.
Tioga Pass, the highest in the Sierra Nevada at just under 10,000 feet, remains closed from Crane Flat to 12 miles west of the junction of Hwy 395.
