Sacramento, CA -- An initiative that would provide California's community colleges with hundreds of millions of dollars in additional funding while cutting student fees has qualified for the state's February fifth presidential primary ballot.
The measure would cut student fees from the current $20 per unit to $15 a unit, and it would limit annual fee increases to ten percent or the percentage growth in personal income, whichever is lower. The initiative also would boost state funding for the 109 colleges by $910 million over the next three fiscal years according to an analysis prepared for the initiative's supporters. Elementary, middle and high schools would gain an additional $280 million in the same period.
