Rail Road Flat Elder Suffers Identity Theft

Rail Road Flat, CA -- Brenda Center of Rail Road Flat is in Calaveras County Jail for theft from an elder.

A 70-year old anonymous victim had her credit card and an expired California ID stolen from a dresser drawer.

After an investigation, Calaveras County deputies identified 47-year old Center, a former roommate of the victim, as the suspect.

The victim says $7,000 of unauthorized purchases were made on her credit card.

Authorities say Center used the card for various purchases such as buying tires, paying a PG&E bill, cell phone bill and veterinary bill.

Center was arrested Saturday and is in jail on $220,000 bail. She also had an arrest warrant out of Amador County for grand theft, forgery and elder abuse.
