Jamestown, CA -- Sierra No. 3 has raised the $300,000 needed to receive a dollar for dollar matching grant from the California Cultural and Historical Endowment.
This past weekend was the deadline to receive donations, and Kathy Daigle with the California State Railroad Museum Foundation says it was exciting to see many last minute gifts come in for the project. Daigle says, “We are just thrilled and touched by everyone who has given, and came out to support us in restoring this famous and historic movie star locomotive.”
The group also received enough money to match a $50,000 grant from the Irving J. Symons Foundation. The exact amount raised is still being tabulated.
Daigle says work on the complete restoration will begin next month. Sierra No. 3 will hopefully be back on the tracks by April of 2009.
