Public Invited To Geothermal Drilling At College Tuesday

Saturday, January 27, 2007 - 12:00 PM

Sonora, CA-- Columbia College Officials are ready to get the ball rolling on the development of the Natural Resources Building.

Tuesday, January 30th at 2pm, a subcontractor from AC Connection of Santa Rosa will bore an exploratory hole 300 feet deep and five inches in diameter in order to gather geothermal data for the site.

Based on the findings of the bore test, engineers will be able to calculate the system's pay back period based on an analysis of the installation costs versus the building's future energy cost savings. The future building is located behind the present Toyon Building.

Among the many college departments that will be housed in the new facility are biology, chemistry, earth science/ geology, forestry and natural resources, geographic information systems, and physics. The public is invited to attend.
