San Andreas, CA -- Two women are arrested and at least 20 victims are scrambling to cover their assets after a series of mail thefts throughout Calaveras County.
The Lodi Police Department says on Saturday it arrested 33-year old Terry Vanoverloop of San Andreas and 18-year old Stephanie Dewey of Sacramento when the two attempted to make fraudulent purchases at the Mervyns in Lodi. In a backpack investigators found pieces of stolen mail from victims in San Andreas, Mountain Ranch and Pioneer of Amador County.
Lodi Detective Nick Rafiq says the women specialize in making fraudulent documents and counterfeiting.
One victim had her paycheck stolen while others have had to cancel or change credit card and bank accounts.
