Sonora, Ca -- Tuolumne County businesses have a new resource to re-coup losses stemming from bad checks.
District Attorney Donald Segerstrom has announced details about a new restitution program. When a merchant receives a bad check, they can submit it to the program. A representative will then contact the bad check writer and retain the losses. The money will then be returned to the merchant. Segerstrom says it is done entirely without taxpayer money. It is funded by fees that the check writer will submit to the program. If the writer does not cooperate, he or she will be prosecuted.
An informational meeting to discuss the program has been scheduled for December 4th at 11am at the Sonora Opera Hall.
