San Andreas, CA -- Now that the Thanksgiving holiday is over, a storm is headed for the Sierra Nevada and is expected to be in the Mother Lode by Sunday.
The National Weather Service says wind, rain and mountain snow will greet travelers on Sunday as they return home from the holiday weekend. The service calls for a storm that will hit the Northern California Mountains and move through the Sierra Nevada.
Snow will likely fall in the higher elevations on Sunday night and Monday. Lower elevations will see light rainfall throughout Sunday afternoon and through Monday night.
Gusty winds are also expected with this system, which combined with snowfall could cause white out conditions.
Travelers are advised to carry chains, warm clothing, extra food and water.
