David Andrew Granger Dies In Hwy 140 Saturday Accident

Monday, October 30, 2006 - 09:45 AM

Mariposa County, CA -- 24-year-old David Andrew Granger of Yosemite National Park has been identified by the Highway Patrol as the victim of a single vehicle accident early Saturday morning.

Granger was headed eastbound on Highway 140 east of Cedar Lodge in Mariposa at about 2:45am when he allowed his 1988 Subaru wagon to drift to the right where it ran off the south edge of Highway 140. Officials say the vehicle continued off the south side of the highway for about 80 feet before colliding with a large immovable rock outcropping.

Following the collision, a fire ignited in the engine compartment of the vehicle which also started a small vegetation fire. Although Granger was extricated from the vehicle by passing citizens and C.P.R was performed, the efforts were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at 3:30am.

C.H.P. reports indicate there was evidence Granger was under the influence of alcohol.
