Poppet Flats, CA -- Esperanza Fire update from Riverside County; as of seven o'clock Sunday evening, the 40,200 acre fire (62 square miles) was 85% contained.
Full containment is expected by six o'clock this evening. 34 homes and 20 outbuildings have been destroyed by the arson set fire. On the initial day of the fire, October 26, four firefighters were killed and one was critically burned. There have been nine minor injuries. Total firefighters involved to date; 2,555. The C.D.F. Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit sent one strike team of engines and one strike team of crews to the fire. Inmates from the Sierra Conservation Center also reported to the fire.
The cost of fighting this fire is now estimated to be $8.3 million.
