West Point Ambulance Service Gets Cut

Tuesday, September 26, 2006 - 11:00 AM

West Point, CA -- Instead of having an ambulance on hand 24-hours a day, West Point residents will have one in the area only 12 hours of the day.

That was a decision of the Mountain Valley Emergency Medical Services Agency, the group that oversees ambulance service in five counties, including Calaveras.

Calaveras officials are upset with the decision to cut service and the lack of notification.

Supervisor Steve Wilensky, whose district covers West Point, says the fire chiefs in the area weren't notified and they are the first responders immediately affected by the lack of service.

County Administrator Tom Mitchell sits on the Emergency Medical Services Oversight Committee and says the agency apologized for not notifying officials and said it will never happen again.
