Bret Harte Gets Anti Violence Grant

Friday, July 28, 2006 - 11:35 AM

Angels Camp, CA -- The Bret Harte Union High School District is one of 33 school districts in the state to be awarded a new grant that will protect students from violence.

Attorney General Bill Lockyer and Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell announced the $16 million in grants Wednesday.

The grant will pay for Bret Harte to develop and implement violence prevention programs.

The School Community Violence Prevention program was initiated through AB 825 in 2004. 150 school districts applied for funding.

In April applicants went through an in-depth review and scoring process. Review panels judged applications on demonstrated need, the plan to address the need, the proposed budget and the extent to which they provided for a collaborative process.
