Knights Ferry Fire Contained

Friday, July 28, 2006 - 04:50 AM

Knights Ferry, CA -- Full containment of the 184 acre Knights Ferry fire was reached Thursday evening.

C.D.F. Fire Prevention Specialist Nancy Longmore reported Thursday afternoon the fire was started by a spark from a grinder on Horseshoe Road. Apparently the operator of the grinder was building a fence when the sparks flew into the dry grass. The blaze spread to both sides of the Stanislaus River near Highway 108. No structures were threatened and no injuries have been reported.

C.D.F. Dispatcher Jim DeVoll in San Andreas says four C.D.F.-Tuolumne County Fire Department engines remain on the scene at this hour. Also still on scene are two Oakdale Rural Fire Department engines and one water tender plus two C.D.F. hand crews. DeVoll says the mopup operation should be completed today.

Resources were aplenty: five C.D.F. engines, four Tuolumne County engines, one Sonora Fire Department engine, five engines from Stanilaus County, two air tankers, two helicopters, one dozer and eight C.D.F. crews.
