Lucky Fan Goes For Beers And Gets Bonds' 715th Homer

Monday, May 29, 2006 - 03:25 PM

San Francisco, CA--As 43,000 of his fellow fans in San Francisco watched Barry Bonds try to hit his 715th home run, Andrew Morbitzer figured it would be a good time to get out of his seat and go buy some beer.

Guess who ended up with the baseball? Morbitzer was in the beer line when Bonds belted the ball over center field. The ball seemed at first to be beyond anyone's reach on a roof, but then it rolled down and dropped into Morbitzer's grasp. Is he going to keep it? Sell it? The recent San Francisco transplant says the ball's fate is "yet to be determined."

Morbitzer says he's a Giants and Bonds fan, and went on the beer run because he couldn't see from the bleachers who would be next at the plate. He says he "got to be a small part of a big day."At a post-game news conference, Morbitzer's wife says she wondered why he took so long to return with her peanuts.
