Sacramento, CA -- Hundreds of California residents are among 9,000 fugitives arrested nationally in a week-long round-up that focused on sex offenders.
Among the 256 caught between Bakersfield and the Oregon border was a murder suspect from Mexico living in Modesto who will be deported. Authorities in the Los Angeles area rounded up 262 fugitives, including a sex offender found with letters to children, notes explaining why he enjoys sex with children, child pornography, candy and methamphetamines.
Police are working to locate children listed in the diary-style notes. In the San Francisco Bay area, 146 fugitives were apprehended, and 194 in the San Diego area.
San Diego-area arrests included a man caught 10 years to the day after he and another man allegedly raped and molested a 14-year-old girl.
