Ca Beats April Tax Collection Estimate With Two Days To GoThursday, April 27, 2006 - 03:00 PM
Sacramento, CA -- The state is taking in more money in income taxes than expected.
With two more days to count returns, the Schwarzenegger administration says the state has collected $1.5 billion more in income taxes than it was anticipating for the month of April. Some lawmakers says they will call for the state to use the extra money to boost funding for public schools and aid to the disabled.
A Department of Finance spokesman says the higher numbers reflect improvements in the state's economy but warned the state must first pay off debts and guard against lawsuits.
