Sewer Rate Hike Approved For Valley Springs

Thursday, April 27, 2006 - 11:40 AM

Valley Springs, CA -- The Valley Springs Public Utility District OK'd an increase in rates for its 270 customers Wednesday.

Sewer rates are going from $27.50 to 49.50 per month. Customers will see the change in their May bills.

The vote was 4-0 with one director absent.

The board also added a $5 infrastructure fee to water and sewer bills.

Five or six people showed up curious about the increases. Some of those people were on a fixed income and wondered how they would pay the extra money. The district does not have any programs in place to help those families.

District General Manager Mike Fischer says the increase will help cover monthly operating expenses.
