Fire Season Is Right Around The Corner

Sonora, CA -- There is no better time than the present to prepare your home and property for the upcoming fire season.

Spring is the time of year to make your home safe by clearing dead and dying vegetation and flammable leaves, brush and dry grass within 100 feet of your home and other structures.

For many years clearance was only required to 30 feet from a structure but effective January 1, 2005 a new law became effective that extends the minimum clearance from structures to 100 feet of defensible space.

CDF officials are concerned about the this summer's fire potential because of the heavy amounts of spring moisture that will cause increased vegetation, or fuel, for summer fires.
