Blue Moms Group Speaks OutTuesday, April 25, 2006 - 01:00 PM
Sacramento, CA -- A group of military mothers is urging state lawmakers to adopt new legislation keeping protesters away from funerals for fallen soldiers.
Members of the Blue Star Moms support group are appearing before a state Assembly committee in Sacramento today. The new law would keep protesters 300 feet away from all funerals and memorial services and would apply to demonstrators with any message, not just an anti-war one. Violators would face up to $1,000 in fines and six months in jail. Opponents say the law would violate free speech.
Thirty-two other states are considering similar measures. At least nine have enacted similar laws.
