State Appeals Court Accuses Governor SchwarzeneggerFriday, March 31, 2006 - 05:45 AM
Sacramento, CA -- A state appeals court says a campaign committee controlled by Governor Schwarzenegger broke state law by failing to promptly report millions of dollars in expenditures promoting four measures on last November's special election ballot.
The 3rd District Court of Appeal says Schwarzenegger's California Recovery Team should have reported the expenditures within 24 hours after they were made during the 90 days leading up to November 8th election. The campaign committee's treasurer, Thomas Hiltachk, says the committee accepts the court's decision but stresses that all of the expenditures at issue were reported before the election.
A campaign committee that opposed the Schwarzenegger ballot measures says a state commission should fine the Recovery Team.
