Fair Contest Deadlines Approach

Angels Camp, CA -- The deadlines for the 2006 Miss Calaveras Pageant and Saddle Queen Competition are Friday.

This year's pageant is set for 8 p.m., May 17, at the fairgrounds. The Saddle Queen Competition is at 4 p.m., the same day.

Miss Calaveras contestants compete in talent, interview, health and fitness and evening gown. Girls must be 17 to 23 years old and residents of Calaveras County.

Saddle Queen contestants compete in horsemanship skills, equitation, reigning pattern clean lap, barrel racing, and interview. They must be 14 to 19 years old and residents of the county.

The Junior Miss Calaveras Pageant, run by the Altaville Melones Fire District, will hold an open meeting for interested contestants at 1 p.m., Sunday, April 2 at the firehouse. Girls must be accompanied by their parent or guardian. Contestants must be eighth grade students within Calaveras County. They are judged on beauty, personality, poise and charm, and raffle ticket sales. This year's competition will take place May 13.
