CHP Calls For Safety Review After Death Of Latest OfficerTuesday, February 28, 2006 - 08:30 AM
Sacramento, CA -- The death of six California Highway Patrol officers since last fall is prompting the CHP to review its safety procedures.
CHP Commissioner Mike Brown says during the two-day "stand-down" field commanders will be reviewing safety procedures with patrol officers. The statewide stand-down will be in effect for the CHP's 108 field offices but will not affect deployments or service.
Brown says the rarely used action also will give officers the chance to vent their feelings. He says there's a lot of anger over the rash of deaths.
The latest came over the weekend when a Southern California motorcycle officer was hit by a suspected drunken driver during a traffic stop.
