San Andreas, CA -- A bill that would protect senior citizens against elder abuse is making its way through the U.S. Congress and has the support of local officials.
Tuesday the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors signed letters supporting legislation proposed by Senators Barbara Boxer and Diane Feinstein. In 2005 Calaveras County saw 168 reported cases of elder abuse, neglect and exploitation.
The bill combines law enforcement, public health and social services to detect, treat and prosecute elder abuse cases.
