A's Owner Meets With MLS About Expansion Team In San Jose

Sunday, January 29, 2006 - 02:15 PM

Oakland, CA -- The owner of the Oakland Athletics is talking with the commissioner of Major League Soccer about investing in an expansion team to replace the San Jose Earthquakes.

A's owner Lew Wolff met with MLS Commissioner Don Garber Thursday to discuss ways to revive a professional soccer team in Silicon Valley.

The Earthquakes moved to Houston in December but the team's name and logo will stay in the San Francisco Bay area.

Garber also met with San Jose city officials and the fan group Soccer Silicon Valley to come up with a plan to relaunch the team here.

Garber had previously said an expansion team could be placed in San Jose by 2007, but he has since backed away from that estimate
