Sonora, CA -- There will be no break from the rain this weekend.
The National Weather Service says a strong winter storm is headed for the Mother Lode tonight, bringing rain, snow to the higher elevations and plenty of wind. Snow levels are expected to start out between 4,500 and 5,000 feet over the west slopes tonight. Gusts of wind up to 50 MPH are possible at the higher elevations and could cause white out conditions.
Those traveling in the mountains should be prepared for winter conditions. The National Weather Service is advising motorists to carry tire chains and check the latest road and weather reports before heading out.
