California & Texas Battle For Wine, Boots, & Beef In Rose Bowl WagerFriday, December 30, 2005 - 03:15 PM
Sacramento, CA -- More will be at stake in Wednesday's Rose Bowl game between USC and Texas than a national championship.
If Texas upsets No. 1 USC, California Governor Schwarzenegger will send a basketful of California delights to Texas Governor Rick Perry. Among them, avocados, winter strawberries, garlic, salmon and, of course, Napa Valley wines. And if the Trojans win the BCS title game? Think citrus, ice cream and barbecued beef brisket heading to California. Both governors also are offering handmade cowboy boots that will go up for auction, perhaps on eBay, with the proceeds going to charity.
Big-game wagers are becoming an annual event for Schwarzenegger. He won a side of beef and a gift basket last year from Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry when USC beat the Sooners in the Orange Bowl. The food will be donated to national guard troops in the victor's state.
