Community Christmas Eve Dinner The Best Yet

Tuesday, December 27, 2005 - 11:00 AM

Sonora, CA -- Organizers of the annual Christmas Eve community dinner are saying this year's event saw the biggest turnout ever despite what was initially a shortage of turkeys.

Kathy Peacock says the dinner ended up with more than enough turkey after the community stepped forth to help.

Peacock says more than 200 volunteers helped with the preparation and service in addition to the many community residents and businesses who contributed turkeys to the cause.

She says the people who volunteered and donated seemed to enjoy giving back to the community.

Many were from out of town. Peacock says she has never seen an instance when the local residents haven't come forth when needed.

Organizers are already looking forward to next year's event which be the 25th annual.
