Jamestown, CA -- Authorities are on the lookout for an escaped prisoner who walked away from the Vallecito conservation camp last night.
Lieutenant Kenny Calhoun of the Sierra Conservation Center says 20-year-old David Petelo was discovered missing at about 8:00 last night during a routine head count. He was spotted in the Utica Park area of Angels Camp at about 6:30 this morning but was not apprehended. Petelo is of Pacific Islander heritage with short black hair, brown eyes and a dark complexion. He's 5' 11" tall and weighs about 215 pounds. He was last seen wearing grey sweats and camp boots.
Calhoun says Petelo was at the camp since October after being incarcerated in April of 2004. He is serving a five-year term for car-jacking.
Although Petelo isn't considered dangerous, residents are advised to keep their doors and windows locked and to report any suspicious activity to authorities.
Drivers should also keep their car doors locked and be aware of their surroundings.
