Holiday Traffic Deaths Down From Last YearMonday, November 28, 2005 - 06:00 AM
Sacramento, CA -- The number of traffic deaths over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend has risen over last year, although the number of drunken driving arrests has fallen slightly.
The California Highway Patrol reports that from 6 p-m Wednesday to 6 a-m yesterday, 56 people were killed in traffic accidents, compared with 48 deaths during the same period last year. Officials say the higher number could be attributed to more victims not wearing their seat belts.
Rainy conditions in Northern California over the weekend also caused some traffic problems.
Meanwhile, arrests for driving under the influence are down to 1418, compared to 1430 arrests last year.
