Modesto, CA -- The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office is joining forces with Assemblyman Dave Cogdill's office and the Modesto Police Department in an effort to educate the public on identity theft.
Authorities say identity theft and other types of fraud increase significantly over the holidays. A recently released pamphlet is available to the public offering tips on how to protect against identity theft, and step-by-step instructions on what to do if victimized.
The pamphlet is available at Cogdill's office, the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office, or online at the Stanislaus County Sheriff's web site.
The web-site also provides an interactive test that is designed to teach members of the public how to recognize fraudulent web-sites and emails.
