Merced, CA -- The newly opened University of California Merced is planning to join forces with one of the state's largest regional centers.
Officials with the Modesto-based Great Valley Center say the partnership will allow the non-profit organization to take advantage of the University's advanced research capacity and intellectual base. University officials say the two institutions share many of the same goals, such as improving the region's economy and educational opportunities, leadership development and coordination of regional projects.
Officials say the Center's network of community leaders, non-profit groups and businesses will partner with faculty members to take advantage of the university's research.
Meanwhile, the center will continue to raise funds for its work. Two major foundations have pledged significant transitional support as the partnership begins.
