Schwarzenegger Campaign Buys Univision Air TimeSunday, October 30, 2005 - 10:00 AM
Sacramento, CA -- Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's campaign has bought nearly $1 million in air time from Univision, the Spanish-language TV network whose chairman is his biggest single donor.
The Los Angeles Times reports Univsion chief A. Jerrold Perenchio has contributed nearly $5 million to Schwarzenegger campaign committees since 2002 including $1.5 million on October 4th. Meanwhile, the governor's campaign has spent over $983,000 at Univision stations in the four weeks that ended October 22nd. It bought no ad time this year from rival network Telemundo, which did not donate to the campaign.
Schwarzenegger spokesman Todd Harris said the decision to buy air time from Univision and not from Telemundo had nothing to do with political contributions. Harris said the decision was made because Univision has a larger audience than Telemundo.
