San Andreas, CA -- With 300 pounds of shrimp in hand, parents at My Own School in San Andreas were able to raise nearly $12,000 last Saturday at the school's third annual Shrimp Feed.
My Own School is a parent co-op preschool. Parent Kate Leiga said the dinner brought out 240 supporters who left only 10 pounds of shrimp at the end of the day.
Also held were a raffle and auction where a handful of desserts went for $2,500.
Normally all of the money is put back into the school's budget. But this year some will be set aside for a building fund, which will pay for a new school office. Creating the new office will free up space for a reading center in the classroom.
