Governor Touts Reform Via His Ballot MeasuresWednesday, October 26, 2005 - 03:15 PM
Sacramento, CA -- Governor Schwarzenegger urged an invited audience of about 50 people today in Arcadia to support his ballot proposals next month, warning that taxes could be increased if the initiatives are defeated.
The governor told the poolside gathering that union bosses are solely serving themselves and that his reform plans will bring Sacramento spending under control. A small group of protesters chanted "Schwarzenegger has to go!" on a street a couple houses away. In speaking less than 30 minutes, the governor said, "It is extremely important that we reform the broken system."
Schwarzenegger described the situation as "an insane system of spending, spending, spending." Most of his remarks concerned Proposition 76, which would cap state spending.
Of state legislators, the governor said, "They want to continue spending money. We don't have a revenue problem. We have a spending problem. They are spending addicts."
