Coarsegold, CA -- CDF Aircraft from Columbia have been summoned to assist in fighting a 180 acre wildfire burning near Quartz Mountain.
Chris Jensen of San Andreas CDF says the aircraft will be committed to the assignment for as long as is necessary, or in the instance of a more serious blaze elsewhere. Jensen says the local area is still covered because other aircraft are available from other districts if needed.
CDF says the blaze began shortly after noon today and is burning about 95 miles south of Sonora on Quartz Mountain Road and Road 417.
Crews have not achieved containment and the cause of the fire remains unknown.
Twenty-four engines are on scene, along with 4 water tenders, 4 air tankers, 5 bulldozers and 5 helicopters. CDF also has 350 firefighters dispatched to battle the blaze.
