Amador-Eldorado CDF Restrict Burn Hours to 6 PM to Midnight From TodayMonday, June 27, 2005 - 11:55 AM
Camino - The Amador-El Dorado Unit of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection has decided to limit hours for burning four foot by four foot debris piles from six in the evening to midnight on a “burn day” with a valid permit because of the number of wildland fires caused by debris pile escapes recently. The potential of one of these fires growing to a large and catastrophic wild fire increases with each day as vegetation dries out this summer. As in past years, the public should expect that burn permits will be suspended in the near future as fire season progresses.
For now the following guidelines should be followed for safe residential debris burning. Keep in mind that you can be held financially responsible for damage and suppression costs resulting from fires that escape your control. Rules to follow while burning your out door vegetation: • Maximum pile size 4 foot by 4 foot.
• Maintain the area within 10 feet of the outer edge of the pile free and clear of all flammable material and vegetation.
• An adult must be in attendance with a shovel until the fire is dead out.
• A water supply available at the burning site.
• No burning is undertaken unless weather conditions are considered safe (no wind).
• Most importantly, call (209) 223-6246 to make sure it is a permissive burn day.
Also be considerate and don't smoke out your neighbors when you are burning. Green vegetation creates a lot of smoke, properly dried out material does not. For more information on drying times, contact the county Air Quality Management District.
