San Joaquin County Sheriff Sentenced On Corruption Charge

Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 01:10 PM

Sacramento, CA -- Former San Joaquin County Sheriff T. Baxter Dunn was sentenced to six months in federal prison and six months of home confinement Tuesday on a federal fraud charge stemming from his secret financial interest in a company that wanted to build a power plant at the Port of Stockton.

Dunn faced up to 24 months in prison. He received a lesser penalty because he pleaded guilty in January and cooperated in the prosecution of his longtime friend, Monte D. McFall.

McFall was the alleged lynchpin of the business venture that also ensnared the former head of a state criminal justice agency and two other former public officials.

Dunn also was fined $40,000. He is to report to federal custody in June. Dunn was first elected sheriff in 1990 and won a fourth term in 2002.
