Calveras County Republican Women Honor Veterans

The Calaveras County Band entertained the crowd at the Calaveras County Republican Women's Memorial Day event Monday.  There was also a tri-tip barbecue and veterans were given certificates of appreciation.

Angels Camp, CA -- Calaveras County saw its first annual Memorial Day event at yesterday's Memorial Barbecue presented by the Calaveras County Republican Women.

The group gathered at Utica Park in Angels Camp to honor area veterans and show their appreciation during a tri-tip barbecue.


Veterans Were Awarded Certificates Of Appreciation At Monday's Barbecue which was presented by the Calaveras County Republican Women in conjunction with the Calaveras County Republican Central Committee.  The Calaveras County Band played and a tri-tip barbecue was served.

Chief organizer Judy Robertson says her involvement in the event is quite personal. She says she organized the event because she wanted to express her appreciation for the freedoms she enjoys as an American.

Veterans received certificates of appreciation and given an opportunity to introduce themselves. The Calaveras County Band furnished the music, and proceeds from the barbecue went to local scholarship funds.


Candidate for the 25th Assembly District Tom Berryhill was on hand to support and show appreciation at the 1st annual Memorial Day barbecue held Monday at Utica Park in Angels Camp.  State Senator Dave Cox was also on hand.

State Senator Dave Cox was also on hand to lend his support. He said the gathering was an "appropriate" way to honor the veterans and he is proud that his constituents haven't forgotten what Memorial Day is all about.

Organizers say they anticipate the annual barbecue growing bigger and better every year.
