Sacramento, CA -- A California Assemblyman has introduced legislation designed to make sure each school district in the state has enough funding for school buses.
Assemblyman John Benoit says some districts are getting enough state money to meet their needs while others are not. He says the method for calculating how much money each district gets hasn't been changed in 25 years and some districts have grown significantly. The bill would mandate that the state would increase funding for school transportation in the event of a budget surplus. It also ensures that the districts that have the greatest need will get the most money.
The bill unanimously passed the Education Committee yesterday.
