Schwarzenegger Overturns Parole Board DecisionWednesday, March 30, 2005 - 08:00 AM
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has reversed the recommendation of the state's parole board for a convicted murderer.
That prompted an angry sermon from an Episcopal bishop who had planned to celebrate Easter services with the man, who is now a deacon. The state Board of Prison Terms approved James Tramel's parole in October, but the governor overturned it Friday. Schwarzenegger argued that Tramel's release from state prison "would pose an unreasonable risk of danger to society at this time." Tramel was scheduled to be ordained as a priest at Grace Cathedral in June.
