The Storm's Aftermath

Thursday, March 24, 2005 - 02:35 PM

Wednesday's storm system in the Motherlode ended after delivering a total of 4 feet of new snow to Dodge Ridge Ski Resort since last weekend. Bear Valley Mountain has seen 5 feet of new snow since last Friday and Kirkwood reports a total of 8 feet of snow since Saturday with 3 feet added alone on Wednesday.

Also since the weekend, two trees have fallen onto residential homes in Calaveras County. The first tree was a 200 foot tall Douglass Fir, estimated to be 25 tons, and fell into the home of Avery resident Frank Perry. The tree destroyed a kitchen, a loft, a bedroom and 2 bathrooms. Arnold was the site Wednesday for a large Oak tree to fall onto the house of Debra Vaughn in the Meadowmount area. Despite the long term headaches in both incidents, no injuries were reported.

Despite all of the precipitation, Melones Reservoir remains 1 million acre-feet below capacity.
