Who's To Blame In Baseball Brawl?Wednesday, September 15, 2004 - 04:10 PM
The woman injured by a flying chair at Monday's Oakland Athletics game held a news conference today with her husband and their lawyer, mapping out their plans to sue the Texas Rangers.
Craig Bueno was heckling the Rangers' relief pitchers Monday night at the game, when tempers flared and reliever Frank Francisco hurled a folding chair into the crowd. The chair struck Bueno's wife, Jennifer, busting up her nose.
She was at the news conference in Oakland, wearing a large bandage across her nose and showing some purple bruises under her eyes, and saying they plan to seek compensation for her injuries.
Heckling is just "part of the game," according to Craig Bueno, who denies that his "verbal bantering" justified the melee.
A lawyer for the couple says a lawsuit is likely once Oakland police and Major League Baseball investigations are complete.
A fire battalion chief, Bueno said he'd bought season tickets near the visitors' bullpen to better facilitate heckling.
Jennifer Bueno said it would be a "little while" before she attends A's games again.
Francisco showed up today for his initial appearance, but the matter was postponed until October 29th.
