Alcohol Suspected In Motorcycle CrashMonday, August 30, 2004 - 10:45 AM
An accident between a van and motorcycle Saturday afternoon serious injured the motorcycle rider.
The crash was reported around 4:30 p.m. on Highway 4, west of Angels Camp near the Waterman Creek bridge. The CHP says 42 year-old Rex Russell of San Andreas was had been reported driving at a high rate of speed and passing other vehicles in a reckless manner. He lost control of the Harley Davidson and struck a van nearly head-on. The CHP suspected alcohol was involved after they found several beers in the saddle bag of the motorcycle.
An Air Med helicopter transported Russell to Doctor's Hospital in Modesto with major head trauma , broken ribs and collapsed lung. He was later arrested for DUI.
Driver of the van from Clovis, was uninjured.
