Shasta County Declared Disaster AreaThursday, August 26, 2004 - 08:15 PM
The federal Small Business Administration named Shasta County a disaster area Thursday - a day after a similar state declaration responded to wildfires that burned 23-thousand acres and destroyed 106 homes there earlier this month.
The S-B-A's declaration will make low-interest federal loans available to homeowners, renters and businesses whose property was damaged or destroyed. Loans can be up to 200-thousand dollars to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate and up to 40-thousand dollars for possessions.
Businesses are eligible for up to one-and-a-half (m)million dollars.
The S-B-A has a disaster center at the Boggs Building in Redding to help victims apply for the loans.
