Grass Fire on Highway 108 Contained

Firefighters quickly handled a grass fire burning Saturday evening along Highway 108 in the center median strip to the east of South Tulloch Road. Thick smoke was a problem for motorists in that area for a while.

The fire was first reported at 6:27 p.m. Air tankers and a helicopter were called in but later released back to their base at the Columbia airport. Use caution if driving in that area in western Tuolumne County as firefighters and equipment will be in the along the highway for several hours mopping up the blaze. No word on size of the fire or cause at this time.
