Peterson Lawyers Seek Public Money To Pay For DefenseSaturday, July 31, 2004 - 06:25 AM
Scott Peterson's lawyers have requested public funding to help pay for his defense.
The Modesto Bee reported today that two judges in Stanislaus County are considering the lawyers' request. State confidentiality laws prevent court officials or defense lawyers from talking about public funding requests. Peterson's parents have been helping to pay for his defense.
Earlier this week, his father said there had been talk of asking for public money. Peterson is accused of killing his pregnant wife, Laci, in their home and dumping her body into San Francisco Bay. He's hired a topflight legal team for his now two-month long trial.
